Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a practice that dates back to ancient times and places. It is the practice of utilizing organic smells to alter the mental, spiritual, and physical emotions within the body. Often times in older cultures this practice was used for enlightenment in religious ceremony. Other times is was utilized for medicinal lift based upon medical need.

Today aromatherapy is mainly used for its psychological effects through essential oils. Having personally experienced this just over three years ago, I knew that I needed to know more. Through training and research, I’ve learned about the numerous effects that the olfactory system (smell) can have on a person physically and mentally. The spiritual side to aromatherapy is an additional benefit that is also undeniable. Here is an example of what I am speaking to.

Have you ever smelt something, and it elicited a memory? Yes, of course you have. Whether its moms’ cookies, or grandma’s sauce, or the lilacs that used to grow outside your childhood home, you’ve experienced this enforced recall. For this to happen, that particular smell caused an emotional response first. The next step in the process was the recall of the memory. Whatever the smell, and memory was that came to mind for you, its undeniable isn’t it?

Now imagine training yourself to react to a smell the way you want to. Say you wanted to feel more energized when you first wake up as an example. You could create a blend of essential oils that you diffuse in your room or roll on to your wrists and behind your ears, when you first wake up that would assist you in feeling awake, energized, and motivated. Or perhaps relaxing and sleep are sometimes struggles for you. Imagine having a go-to smell that helped you slow down your mind and body and assist you in getting ready for bed. These are just two examples of aromatherapy that can assist you.

The use of essential oils is easy once you understand the basics. The most important factor is quality. The retail markets are saturated with essential oils that do not have medicinal quality elements in them. These oils will not affect you the way that true pure products will. Another important factor is knowing how you react to each element. IF you were to accidentally use an energizing formula in your bedside diffuser it may cause you to experience insomnia. Knowing what, when. Where, and how is very important.

There are many more benefits to using aromatherapy than mentioned here. Having a consult with a specialist is very important in prioritizing your specific needs. No matter what the symptom, condition, state of mind, or situation may be, the use of aromatherapy with essential oils will provide relief.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are readily available online, in health food stores, and in some regular supermarkets. It’s important to buy from a reputable producer since the oils aren’t regulated by the FDA. This ensures you’re buying a quality product that is 100 percent natural. It shouldn’t contain any additives or synthetic ingredients. The company DoTERRA is where I purchase all of the oils I use personally and professionally. Here is a link to their sourcing information. It is my opinion that these products are far superior to any other essential oils available on the market today. You can SMELL the difference.

Each essential oil has an array of unique healing properties, uses, and effects. Combining essential oils to create a synergistic blend creates even more benefits.

When using the DoTERRA site please contact me for advice and to sign you up as a user so that you will receive the best pricing possible!
